Putting new ebook files on old ereaders

This is mostly about the Sony PRS-505 specifically.

This is a five-part series because every time I try to write it, it turns into a foam-mouthed screed about the failures of the publishing industry and the evils of corporate greed. For your convenience, I've moved all the “DEAR GOD WHY IS IT LIKE THIS” stuff into part one so that you can skip it more easily and get straight to the “So what buttons do I press” bit.

I've done this for a non-techy audience so I've tried to err on the side of overexplaining things, apologies for wherever I say something obvious that you already know. If I've underexplained, let me know lol.

1. Reading new books on old ereaders: A Gibbering Manifesto by a pinball machine repairman who does not have time for this shit;
