The big list of important toots
I've been on the fediverse since 2017 instead of doing a blog like I should've. I've done so many big long toots that roughly once a fortnight someone will post about a problem they're having and someone else will go “Oh shit Dan wrote a thread about that, let me go try and find it” and then they'll message me saying “Yo where was that thread of yours about stuff” and I'll go “IDK lol” so this right here is me tryna generally get my shit together, last updated 2026-05-13.
Danger danger these threads are unreadable because mastodon is shit
Mastodon handles long threads very badly. When a thread seems to STOP ABRUPTLY or shift focus into folks replying to stuff from ten posts ago, click on the date in the top-right corner of the post where it stops, which will load more posts. I've never used the web interface for mastodon, I've always just used Subway Tooter on my phone, so I didn't know how shit it was until I'd been using it for like five years and it was too late to stop I could no longer be fucked.
Making or fixing stuff and thinking out loud while I do it
Threads that really should be blog posts or web pages.

Ten people is big numbers on fedi. “These posts are either interesting or funny,” claims social network with no normal people.
- The gratuitous genital trauma thread, the thread about artificial intelligence and men (usually) feeding their dicks (very occasionally clits) to hungry mousetraps
- "Is the problem actually capitalism?" well probably yeah but fucking hell am I tired of hamsters telling me that the reason this bookcase is collapsing is because of capitalism instead of because this screw is loose
- Horrifying British children's TV of the 90's Life is fleeting, death comes for you at random and you won't be missed
- Squashing your bollocks flatter than a pair of little pancakes, a subpost of the Bike Thread
- Never ask Fedi anything especially not for toaster recommendations
- Making a really nice surround sound system for VERY little money, also Sinners is brilliant
- I shaved off my beard, people told me I was quite handsome, and I grew a massive fucking ego about it

- The Horrors of Home Assistant (big red angry face shouting at a cylinder). This thread might be the most cursed thing I've ever written. Before it even starts I had to make a four-inch-wide coffee table and recline my head into an adjacent room to watch the telly because of dumb shit I'd done in the past, now take that image and add making your house go on the computer and it gets more ridiculous. This thread goes some places lemme tell ya. The related tech-enhanced domestic abuse thread is significantly less funny
